Favourite travel experience | Oli Russell-Cowan

We asked some of our most well-travelled contributors, interviewees and partners about their favourite moments on the road – the experiences that sparked their love for travel or have stuck with them over the years.

Here at battleface, travel is what gets us out of bed in the morning.

The thrill of landing in a new destination, of immersing ourselves in a foreign culture, of pushing ourselves to our physical limits and expanding our understanding of this wide, wonderful planet we all share.

But we can’t do any of that right now.

So, instead we’re going to bask in the warm memories of our favourite travel experiences and daydream about that happy point in the future where we’ve beaten this pandemic.

Last summer I set out on an events and festival tour across Europe with the aim to experience as many new and crazy experiences as possible. One of my highlights of the adventure was taking part in the 34th World Bog Snorkelling Championships in Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales, UK.

Set in a field in the middle of nowhere lies two bog trenches stretching for 55 meters in length. The name of the game is the snorkel two lengths of the bog in the fastest time possible.

There are two competitions going on at the same time, one for the fastest time and the other for the best fancy dress costume.

Hands down this was one of the dirtiest and funniest events I’ve ever taken part in.
