If selected, battleface provides Cancellation or Trip Interruption cover when you need to cancel or change your travel plans, due to your pre-paid accommodation having been destroyed or if it becomes uninhabitable due to severe weather or natural disaster. Equipment includes snowboards, skis, bindings, sticks/poles and boots. Snow sports equipment is covered (the maximum amount payable for each insured person is AUD $300). Hired equipment is also covered (the maximum amount payable for each insured person is AUD $300). Exclusions do apply, so please check the PDS and your Certificate of Insurance for full details.

There is no cover for losses incurred from any pre-existing medical condition impacting you, a member of the travelling party or a non-travelling close relative, your business partner or co-worker. This doesn’t apply to automatically covered conditions. You don’t need to disclose your pre-existing conditions to us when you buy a policy, but we may ask for relevant details of your medical history in the event of a claim.

Our definition of pre-existing medical condition is, in the 12 months before buying the policy:

  • a medical or dental condition of which you’re aware, or the related complication you have, or the symptoms of which you’re aware
  • a medical or dental condition currently being, or has been, investigated or treated by a medical practitioner (including dentist or chiropractor)
  • any condition for which you take prescribed medicine. Doesn’t apply to common colds, flu or contraceptive medication
  • any condition for which you’ve had surgery
  • any condition for which you see a medical specialist

This definition applies to you, your travelling party, a close relative or any other person named on the Certificate of Insurance

We’ll pay up to AUD $2,000 per insured person for:

  • the cost of essential temporary treatment for the immediate relief of pain or discomfort to sound, healthy and natural teeth; and/or
  • emergency repairs to dentures and orthodontic appliances carried out solely to alleviate distress in eating

This insurance excludes certain sports and activities. Please see the PDS for the full list of excluded activities.

You can change your travel dates any time before the start of your trip and policy cancellation is free within the cooling-off period. We can offer you a full refund provided you cancel within 21 days of receiving your policy documents and before the departure date of your policy.

If you have already embarked on your trip or need to cancel after the 21-day cooling-off period, your premium will be refunded pro-rata from the date your instructions are received, provided you have not made or do not intend to make a claim.

In all cases, whether or not you cancel within the cooling-off period, we will only consider a refund if:

  • You haven’t started your trip
  • You haven’t made a claim
  • You don’t intend to make a claim or exercise any other right under your policy

When a policy cancellation has been accepted, we will process your refund within 15 business days.

You may be able to extend your policy by contacting our team directly. Several factors may be considered including whether the original policy has lapsed. The policy automatically extends if your return is delayed by an event covered under the policy, until you are able to return to Australia by the quickest route.

You are eligible to buy if:

  • You are 18 years of age or older, but not more than 99 years of age
  • The date of your departure is no more than 12 months from the date of purchase
  • You are an Australian resident
  • You have not commenced your trip

If for any reason you cannot satisfy all these criteria, please contact us and we will do our utmost to find a product to suit your needs.

Claims

If something happens before or during your trip and you want to use your travel insurance, you can lodge a claim with us.

We recommend bringing a print-out of your policy documents with you when travelling so if you are affected by a storm and lose power or can’t connect to the Internet, you’ll still know what number to call and what instructions to follow.

For non-emergency situations before or during your trip: document the situation as much as possible and keep receipts for any expenses incurred. If you have any questions about your situation, or you need guidance, please connect with us for a chat.

For emergency situations, or if you need assistance during your trip: we can help you and answer questions about next steps and required documentation.

You can start your claim here. The claim process will involve the following interactions:

  1. Telling us about the incident that caused your claim
  2. Specifying the financial loss you want reimbursed
  3. Providing evidence of the incident and the relevant losses to support your claim

Once submitted, a claims analyst promptly assesses your claim, determines whether it meets the terms of your policy (including contacting you to request additional information or to clarify any details), and communicates the outcome to you.

Travel assistance can be just about anything you need while travelling (or even before). Services we offer include help with lost baggage or passports, travel information, emergency messages to family or friends, and many other services.

Travel Insurance 101

Purpose

Purpose

Travel insurance protects you from financial losses you could incur prior to or while travelling internationally (in the case of battleface travel insurance policies). Costs can vary based on factors like your age, the length of trip, and your destination(s).

Travel insurance can cover you for minor inconveniences, like missed airline connections or damaged luggage, to major crises, like emergency medical evacuation in a life-threatening situation. Depending on the terms of your policy, you can be reimbursed up to a certain amount for costs incurred when your vacation plans take a turn for the worse. Plus, travel insurance companies generally provide 24/7 assistance to help you navigate emergency situations.

Despite your best-laid plans, sometimes the unexpected happens when you’re travelling. That’s where travel insurance comes in handy. A travel insurance policy gives you peace of mind for your trip, whether you’re vacationing, travelling for business, or even as part of an organised tour group.

And it’s more than just peace of mind. Travel insurance provides financial protection if your travel plans change unexpectedly, or an emergency happens. This may include reimbursing you for lost baggage, recouping costs when you have to cancel a trip unexpectedly, or even, in a worst-case scenario, providing medical evacuation in case of injury or serious illness.

Coverage

Coverage

Travel insurance coverage can be grouped into three main categories: financial reimbursement, travel medical coverage, and 24-hour assistance. The most common type of travel insurance claim is the financial type. Depending on your policy benefits, you can submit a claim for costs incurred due to things like needing to cancel your trip (for a covered reason), trip delay or interruption, missed connections, or lost baggage.

Travel medical coverage is an especially important benefit if you’re travelling abroad and your everyday health insurance may not or won’t cover you. Many plans also have emergency medical evacuation available, which can arrange and pay for medical transportation to a hospital or even to your home if it’s medically necessary.

While travel insurance can provide coverage for a wide range of unexpected events, it’s important to know what’s not included. Be sure to read the specific details of your policy. Generally speaking, travel insurance won’t cover anything that doesn’t fall under “unforeseen circumstances”.

Emergency evacuation can pay for emergency medical transportation to the nearest suitable hospital when deemed necessary by our Medical Officer, or the attending medical practitioner if you fall ill or become seriously injured while travelling. Additionally, our team will make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.

Yes, if selected, Trip Cancellation protects you if you need to cancel your trip unexpectedly for specific reasons such as an unexpected death, illness, or medical condition. You can also be covered for cancellation or restriction by the carrier of pre-paid scheduled public transport services, caused by severe weather, natural disaster, riot, strike or civil commotion, and certain employment-related scenarios.

Yes, battleface travel insurance offers coverage for travel medical expenses, emergency dental expenses, and emergency evacuation if you become ill or seriously injured during your covered trip.

This benefit provides cover if you suffer accidental bodily injury during the trip which, within 12 months from the date of the accident, is the sole and direct cause of your death or permanent total disablement.
